Winning Air-Guitar Ace Salutes AC/DC's ANGUS YOUNG
January 8, 2003A 27-year-old Australian man beat 10 other finalists to win the Hobart Summer Festival air-guitar showdown with his impression of AC/DC "mad axeman" Angus Young, according to Australia's The Mercury.
David Lithgow's carefully choreographed and well-rehearsed piece won the West Hobart carpet salesman a shiny black electric guitar, signed by COLD CHISEL's Ian Moss, and an amplifier.
He owes some of his success to his wife Alice, who coached him. In his heat earlier in the week, he entertained the audience with a spectacular fall.
"I actually came off the stage and hurt my wrist quite badly," he said.
"But fortunately it was fine for today's final."
Decked out in a mate's old Dominic College uniform, including the Angus Young trademark cap, David went through his routine flawlessly.
"I only made it as runner-up in last year's competition so I hoped to make a bigger impact this time," he said.
His guitar prize has prompted David to take his musicianship more seriously.
He has vowed to have a few lessons to top up his fairly amateurish skills.
His aim is to play as well as his brother, James.
